On the mound: LHP Patrick Corbin, who cruised through two scoreless innings in his first start, worked into and out of jams through three innings against the Padres. Corbin issued a pair of walks and gave up a handful of hard-hit balls, allowing two runs on three hits. “I felt strong, so that was a positive,” Corbin said. “I thought on a couple of fastballs I just got a little quick. I thought I was able to make the adjustment there. I felt really good with my off-speed, throwing it for strikes. Maybe did it a little bit too many times there. But I was pleased with it.” LHP Yuhei Nakaushiro, who is vying for a spot as a lefty specialist, turned in a clean sixth inning, an important step for him after struggling to throw strikes in his first two appearances. LHP Anthony Banda struck out two and walked one in two scoreless innings.

At the plate: 2B Brandon Drury had three singles, one of which drove in CF A.J. Pollock in the fourth inning. The Diamondbacks took advantage of three walks by Padres RHP Tyrell Jenkins in the second inning to score a pair of runs. 3B Daniel Descalso had a pair of singles, making him 6 for 15 (.400) so far in the Cactus League.

Extra bases: Pollock had an eventful day. He drew a walk and hit a pair of balls hard in his three trips to the plate but also was picked off first base on a close play in the first inning and dropped a fly ball in the fourth, appearing to lose it in the sun. RHP Tyler Jones was on the mound for Pollock’s error. In the same inning, Jones also had a batter reach first on a wild pitch after a strikeout, then saw another batter take an extra base on a passed ball by C Chris Iannetta.

Sunday’s game: Diamondbacks RHP Taijuan Walker vs. White Sox RHP Reynaldo Lopez.
